Never say "I Don't Care"

This is what I learned yesterday. Where should I begin??

I"ll begin praising Dave for how much he cooks for me. I truely am blessed to have a boyfriend that not only cooks for me regularly, but is a good cook on top of it! Maybe I don't thank him enough, (but I do say thanks for dinner after or during every meal).

Last night Dave asked me what I wanted for dinner (a typical gesture). I said my usual "I don't care". Because I really didn't feel like anything imparticular, and he knows the few things that I don't like. He asked me again and I said "I'll eat anything you make". He got a mischief grin on his face and I knew I'd made a mistake. But I considered that I never had a meal of his I disliked so I didn't worry too much.

He calls me as usual to say dinner is ready and I get there and he has a big grin on his face. I look at the plate and see why. Brussel Sprouts. YUCK. I remember not liking them growing up, and the truth remains. Usually he'll make some for himself and make me green beans or something. Not last night. 5 nice big brussel sprouts covered in pepper (another thing I don't use much of). He said he didn't saute them in butter on purpose. I ate a small one with only slight hesitation (Dave would probably argue differently), and confirmed to him I don't like them. He made me choke down the biggest one too, and then ate the rest. And he said to me "don't tell me you'll eat anything, I debated going out and buying liver for dinner".

So I suppose I've learned my lesson. Next time I will be more specific. I don't care, as long as it's not something you know I don't like. But that just sounds rude, and for him cooking for me I can't really complain.

I do this to Jeff, and it drives him crazy!!! Of course, he says it to me, but he really means it...he'll eat/do anything I want without complaining. So I can't get back at him like Dave did to you.
