Possibility

I'm already in my fourth year of undergrad, yet staying an extra year opens up so many possibilities. I have a lot available to me, but I have to decide if it's worth it. I'm currently applying for a summer research opportunity. It would be great, plus it would pay. If I do it at osu I might even be able to tie it into something else... I can still graduate with distinction if I want to. My GPA is high enough that it is still an option. Should I??

This is what it will entail: Taking a three quarter series of pass/fail classes (one day a week for 2 hours). The class starts with how to prepare a research question, then doing your research, and then how to write a thesis paper. I would work on my own project with a professor and then write a formal paper about my work. It sounds neat... I'm debating talking to a professor about it. Especially if I could do a large chunk of the research this summer. And if I could get paid for it, well... that might make it really worth it!

So I'm looking into it, and we'll have to see. I think I may be able to do something fairly general and then be able to go deeper into for my master's thesis in graduate school. It also would look really good on a resume, especially since I won't be graduating with a biological science degree. I e-mailed a professor I'm interested in working under, so hopefully I'll hear from him soon. And hopefully I'll get into this program for the summer I applied to. Hmmmm...

Sounds incredible. Kind of like an "intro to master's program". That you get PAID to do? What the hell is in it for them? And what's exactly the downside? Why NOT do it (other than the extra course load)?

Thanks for being my caffeine go-to girl!
