SNOW!!!!!... and ice

Two posts in one day... you're just as shocked as I am. Reading Kate's blog I realized that I forgot to mention my adventure with the snow. OSU actually called a snow day... AFTER all my classes were done!!! Come on people, help a college girl out! So here's my story of today...Mom... beware, you may want to stop reading this here.

I left this morning after clearing off my car. There had to be at least 3-4 inches piled on top, and it was coming down pretty fast. It was a light snow so it came off easy and fast. After cleaning it off I was only wet up to my knees and my gloves were soaked. My face was cold for my lack of accounting for wind at 7:45am. So I got back into my nice warm car after clearing off the essential parts of my car (hood, windows, and mirrors.) Then my adventure began.

The road that I live off of was not cleared off at all. As I was sliding down the road I thought that I should just turn around and go back home. But I recentered my self and just went VERY SLOW. The max speed I hit on my trip to school was 30, and that was going down a hill!! On the 50mph road I think I went 23. Yuck.

Once I got to school I got to climb through some mounds of snow and slide in the slushy sidewalks. Oh what a joy. But believe it or not, I was only 5 minutes late to class!! And there were only 12/40 people there!!

So the day went on. At 1:30 when we were about to start collecting data in my Ecology lab we find out that classes had been cancelled starting at 1:30. Now, my class actually started at 12:30, but we debated just leaving. We quickly reconsidered knowing we would have to make up the lab, and that time would then be crunched for getting the report done. So we continued until 2:30. Then I got to dig my car out.

At 12:00 we had noticed a change from light snow to sleet. And when I left class it was hailing. Well... very fine ice was being thrown from the sky. (Falling snow floats, this ice hurt... so it must have been thrown) And apparently this had been happening for a while. The ground was crunching under my feet, and everything was slick. My car had a nice build up of ice on it which I got to chip away. Fortunately some of the snow beneath the ice made it easier to clear off. My friend Pat came to help me after he dug his car out from under a layer of ice. He chipped the ice off my mirror and side window, and then I slowly drove home.

Now, I've heard ice continue to fall until now (8:45) so I dread digging my car out tomorrow... and I wonder, will they cancel class in the morning??? Or maybe I should just not go, I'm sure my teacher would understand. Hmmmm... we shall see!! (inside out pajama's and flushing the toilet may be a necessity tonight!)
